I received an email today regarding a video of a Great White Shark breaking through a cage. Coincidentally, the cover of the next MSD Magazine issue is about Great White Sharks. Be sure to check out this video and look for the next issue of MSD Magazine in your local dive shop next week!

I filmed this while on diving with Shark Diving International this paced November. (www.greatwhiteadventures.com). Shark Diving International, by the way, are the best!!! The whole team was unbelievable... The whole trip was amazing, before and after the accident! I highly recommend this company if you are looking for the ultimate Shark diving experience. Clearly this was an accident, and luckily nether the Shark, Paul (the other Diving) or myself where hurt! As for those that speak badly of Shark Dive International, you clearly have an agenda... like the betterment of another dive operation! I trought is that everyone involved did everything they could to make it safe for both the divers and the sharks. The fact is this shark came up from the deepths, unseen by those on the deck and then hit the cage blind. Diving with Great White Sharks is risky, and no cage could have stoppd this massive animal! Please STOP hating and understand that we all LOVE this animals, that is why we dive!!!

Great White Adventures aka Shark Diving International is directly responsible. While they are calling this horrific event an "accident" they make no mention of the two and possibly three previous cage breaches caught on tape as well. Currently their website claims a 100% safety record.Even after this video aired. They go on to say they have "state of the art equipment that is the envy of all other operators". As seen from that breach video shot in 2007 their cage systems leave much to be desired. Isla Guadalupe is a protected Bio-Sphere Reserve and dive operations are there to observe these animals only. If the rest of the fleet which operates here can do so without any cage breaches, then it's impossible for this particular operation to blame all of these events as "accidents". Clearly something is very wrong and it's up to the self proclaimed "America's #1 Shark Diving Company" to make amends, not only to Mexico who's Bio Sphere they operate in, but to these wild and magnificent animals as well.

I'm glad that Richard and Nan's experience was better than that guy in the video. Even the smaller sharks are extremely powerful, it ripped the cage wall right off.
