I'll be (hopefully) a new certified diver in a few weeks and planning to dive in Jamaica (in 3weeks)and the Phillipine Islands (in a few months).  Can anyone give me any good advice on what to expect and how to calm my nerves before diving?   Any must see dive spots in Jamaica or PI that anyone can share? Thanks!

Be sure to dive with a buddy you know and trust.  Don't simply pair up with Julio, the Divemaster, whom you met five minutes before and is also leading the dive.  Be sure to start slow and easy, avoiding tough conditions such as surf, surge, and stiff currents.  Know your dive site.  And, control your breathing.  Slow, deep, and regular.  Anxious or nervous divers tend to breath fast and shallowly.  Without deep and full exhalations, CO2 can build up in the bloodstream and create the feeling that you need to breathe and cannot get a satisfying breath, which causes more anxiety.

Relax, take it slow.  Control your breathing.  Start with easy dives.
