MSD FORUMS - BASIC SCUBA DISCUSSIONS
TOPIC: Big advantage to NAUI cooperative program

I was just reviewing a recent blog from Captain Darrick which announced a cooperative advertising program with NAUI, After reading about the program I did some math and came up with the fact that basically Midwest Scuba Diving Magazine and NAUI are allowing dive shops to advertise for FREE in the publication and on the website. If you download the media kit you will see that a one-sixth page ad and banner ad on the website costs about $3900 per year. MSD absorbs $2900 of the cost, making the ad cost $1000. NAUI credits the shop with $500 in materials once the ad has been placed. With the retail mark up on books and materials, this basically makes the ad FREE. I am primarily a PADI shop and cannot take advantage of this program. Why doesn't PADI step up to help dive shop owners advertise?

If you were a dive resort PADI would do everything possible to help out.
Otherwise your on your own. Time to switch to NAUI, at least they support shops.

diveshopowner,

That's a very interesting post! For the past few months, Darrick and our salespeople have been contacting shops for the NAUI-MSD Coop program and have always been saying the 1/6 page ad ends up costing $499. That's a great deal in itself and a bunch of shops have signed up. But you're way of looking at it is even better and true! The 1/6 page ad for one year IS FREE!

We'll have to recontact the shops who were hesitant to spending any money on any advertising or the ones that have already allocated their 2007 or 2008 budgets. Participating in the Coop program is now a no-brainer.
