A frilled shark, rarely seen alive because its natural habitat is 600 metres or more under the sea, photographed by the Awashima Marine Park.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let people know about a rare sighting in Japan of this Frill Shark.  It is found in the deep ocean about 600 meters deep!  These are usually found dead in nets;  unfortunately this one didn't survive too long either but at least there was some cool footage!  Try this link if you are interested in seeing it swimming.

That is certainly one creepy, prehistoric looking critter.

That is ugly alright!  I wonder what else is down at the depths???  They're discovery new creatures all the time in the abyss.  Someone actually caught very short video of the giant squid a few years back.
