My wife and I will be heading to FL in the next month or so for our first open water adventure.  I am in the process of putting together a Dive Kit for any essentials we may need at a moments notice.  I would appreciate any comments or additions to the list.  Thanks in advance

O-Rings, various sizes

Mask Strap

Fin Strap

Batteries for watch and light

Leatherman Tool

Small First-aid Kit

Sunblock

What gear are you bringing? Masks, regs, etc.

The gear we own is just the basics (mask, fins, wetsuit, booties, snorkel) I don't anticipate at this point purchasing a reg or BC.  I just want to be prepared in the event I need something at the last minute.  I guess it is the Boy Scout in me "Be Preparted".  I forgot to add one item to the list, some ss clips.

OK, in that case you don't need:

O-rings, batteries, first aid kit- the dive op will have those.

Sunblock - this can harm silicone and diving-type glue.

You might want to bring seasick medicine like Dramamine or prescription stuff like Scopolomine.

Lastly, put at least your masks and preferably everything else in your carry-ons.

I was just recently at Devil's Den in Williston Florida where the O ring from a rental tank went bad. I didn't have any O rings as my instructor had recommended and neither unbelievably did the Dive shop at Devil's Den. I had to scrounge one from another diver. Sometimes I have tried to second guess my instructor and I have always been wrong. It is probably better to carry a few spare items. Be safe rather than sorry! If you know the size of the batteries you are going to use (we needed lights at Devil's Den) they are probably cheaper to bring from home than to buy on site.

This is exactly my thought.  I have all the confidence in the people I am diving with, but I think it is a good practice to alway be prepared for the unexpected.  I have done my share of traveling for work and very rarely have to check luggage, when traveling with dive gear is it preferable to carry on or check it?  I know the max weight for a checked bag is 50 pounds, any info would be helpful.  Thanks.
