Well thats a nice easy question :)  There are some things to consider when choosing a wet suit.  Where are you going to be primarily diving?  If you are mostly going to be diving in our great midwest then I would say a nice 5 to 7 mm farmer john style.  They are very versatile.  If you go somewhere warm you can just wear the top half as a shorty.  If you are primarilly going to be diving the carribean then I would look for a 3 mm shorty or full depending on how cold you typically get.

steve said it right, it depends on the waters you will be diving. for around the midwest here i use a 5mm full, and i have a hooded vest to add when diving early spring and into the fall. that seems to work well for me. also look at materials. i use the aqualung aqua strech and i will never go back to regular neoprean. it is SO much easier to get in and out of.

What thickness of suit should I get for diving the Great Lakes area?

For Great Lakes waters I recommend a 7mm two piece wetsuit. Dry suit is the best! Pia I believe you havwe a 5mm custom suit. We can call Wet Wear and get you a Jacket to go over the suit and then you would have 10mm neoprene insulating your core. Call me and I will talk to Connie. Miss you! One year since Blackbeards!
