I would rent the first couple time and see what you like before you invest in a new BC.

There are pros and cons to buying right away:
Pro - you get to know your own kit.  Familiarity with your gear is a great thing.
Con - you buy before you know much about the equipment.

Personally, I would wait until you've done 20 dives or so before you buy your own gear.  Talk with other divers about what they like or dislike about their equipment.

If/when you do buy gear, you should keep in mind that you might expand your diving horizons over time. I started out diving only in the Caribbean, but fortunately the regulator I bought is good in cold water too since I do a lot of that now!  I also bought a nitrox-compatible computer, even though I didn't do nitrox at first.
