I will be flying Continental to Miami next week and have just checked out the luggage rules. It's pretty standard stuff as long as you dont bring tanks or put your 12" Mike Nelson knife in your carry-on, but there is one thing that irks me: the maximum damage you can claim is $2,800 per customer and they will not sell "excess valuation" insurance for scuba gear. I suppose you could get it from a third party. DAN offers it through a company called H2O insurance, and it comes with a $100 deductable and $250 "water" deductable.

IMHO, this sucks.

I feel your pain, no breaks for the traveling diver!!! Invest in a good gear bag ( Akona ) pack it well and put your reg in your carry on. I've gotten away with it! Odds will be in your favor.Where you going in Miami?

When I travel in the states I FedEx my gear to the hotel or wherever I am going. When I go to Hawaii I ship it to the Dive Shop I deal with. I ship in a Pellican case with locks - never had a problrm. ut of the USA its a problem. I always arrange ahead of time - not just ship and hope

Got a good bag, and I do carry on my regs and mask. I'll be in Tavernier, just south of Key Largo, diving with Conch Republic.

At last count I have scheduled four dives on the Speigel, as well as a couple on the Duane, Eagle, and some other wreck I can't think of right now. Looks like a good week. Woo-Hoo!
