Christmas is right around the corner and my wife and I decided we are going to get each other new watches. I definitely want to get a watch that is great for diving and am looking for people's recommendations. Do you have a watch made for, at least good for diving? What do you like/dislike about it? Have you heard anything good or bad about any specific watches or brands?

I did a little research and here's what I found are important features:
1. Made from high-quality steel or pure titanium or should be monoshelled (i.e. to have one body covering like TAG Heuer watches).
2. Large clock adjuster in case it needs to be adjusted while weating gloves (really necessary?)
3. Good clock lighting for when in dark dive spots.
4. Rotating bezel with engraved dive time markers that only rotates counter-clockwise, for safe timing and other limited events.
5. Easily provides watertightness up to 10 atmospheres (i.e. 330 feet).

What do you think?

Unless you're concerned about the "bling" factor, go with cheap and reliable. My favorite is the Timex Helix DM, which is no longer made but can be found on eBay for around $80. It has depth, temp, and dive chrono/timer functions.  I've been beating mine up for around four yearsand it looks like hell but still works fine. A lot of guys also swear by the Casio G-Shock.

For the last 30 years I have used a Seiko Automatic Diver's Watch 7002-7009. I have had 3 of these in the last 30 years. I lost the other two. One body surfing and the other because I let the band rot. These watches can be found online for about $150. When I was a commercial diver we wore the Rolex Submariner (the "King" of all diving watches) for bling when we were onshore and then switched to the Seiko when we went to work offshore. The Seiko was more durable! A really good entry level dive watch with some great styles is the Freestyle brand. A lot of dive shops carry this line. The watches cost between $40 and $100. They carry a lifetime warrantee. I like the styles!

I'm not going to lie...I do want the bling. I like the Tag Heuer Aquaracer.

But your comments are very useful. Maybe I should get the watch I want for everyday life (doesn't need to be scuba) and buy one of the less expensive watches for diving...something I don't care if is damaged or lost.

Brian, A really cool dive watch which is a little unusual but durable and beautiful is the Omega Seamaster. A few commercial divers had these watches and I really liked them. The commercial divers that had them were eccentric. Not many people have this watch. It definetly has bling, and will set you apart from the usual Tag or Rolex high end dive watch. Just google Seamaster watch.

I agree with Brian and Darrick.  If cost isn't an issue, a Tag is a very good watch.  I hate to admit, but I wear my tag for dress and seiko dive watch while diving.  I just took my tag in to replace the battery and it has to be sent to the manufacturer because the seal is pressurized--cost is going to be $ 40-80.  The seiko has no battery and I found it on Amazon.com for $ 135 plus shipping.  It is the same one Darrick has...you can order it in black, orange, or yellow.

Actually, I use a cheap Timex I bought for $28.  I use it to time all my dives.  Got about 50 dives on it and it hasn't stopped yet! :-)

i bought the CITIZEN HYPER AQUALAND dive watch from the U.S coming up to 2 yrs ago never had to replace battery yet, good looking watch with full dive facility's eccept DECO. the only thing i dont like is that im origonally from the U.K and i cant change it from feet to meters. but other than that its a nice everyday watch and dive timer.
