I'm about to invest in some new scuba fins and would like to hear what everyone thinks before I spend $80 on something that may not work. I've heard great things about split fins, but I was wondering if they are truly as efficient as they seem to be? Some people say that split fins also cut down on the chances of straining your ankles. I've also heard that split fins are absolutely useless in ocean currents.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm pleased with my split fins.  However, I have found that if I'm pulling a flag, like on a shore dive, the line from the dive flag reel, on occassion gets tangled in the split of my fin.  Because of it, I'm tempted to go back to the traditional, split-free design the next time I buy fins.  Good Luck.
