I've heard that there is some good diving to be had in Lake Geneva, in Wisconsin. However, I've looked online and can't find any information about good dive sites or conditions. Anyone out there have experience they can share?

Ever watch that movie "Deathrace" where the object of the race is to run down as many people as possible? That's Lake Geneva in the summer months. Too many boats going nowhere too fast means that dive flags become an obstacle course and serve to make diving a hazardous event. Once the boating season ends (after Labor Day) the water is warm and will tend to clear up, then the diving is okay. There is some stuff to see beyond weeds and spawning beds and search and recovery dives can bring back a pile of stuff that fell overboard during the summer. It's pretty typical for your shallow inland lake, just bigger than most. If you live on or near the lake, you'll want to make the dive. Otherwise, its a "been there, done that" check-off dive.

I agree with SD Anderson. With all the boats during the summer months, diving in Lake Geneva is just a little too crazy. You can dive the lake relatively safely after most of the boats are gone in the fall and it is a good location for ice diving. Lake Geneva has long been a resort area. We used to go diving off shore where the old hotels were located. Before the days of ecological awareness they used to dump their trash in the lake. You can find old bottles and other "divers' treasure." The water depth in some areas drop off very quickly and then levels out at about 90 feet. If you work your way along this transition line you can find stuff. The technique is to thrust your arms up to the elbows in silt and feel along the bottom with your fingers. Of course, this creates zero vis.
Enjoy,
Capt. Dale

I've only dove Geneva Lake during the winter months. I've been able to tag along with a few of the fire departments in the area to do some ice diving.

Thanks for the feedback. It doesn't sound like it's worth the effort.

I was out there last Thurs in the pm. No boat traffic and the vis was great.
The best way to describe Lake Geneva is, it is like a giant Pearl Lake w/ zebra musscles. Some of the fish are HUGE...
