Has anyone done any diving in Lake Michigan? I've been wanting to dive there for the past couple years and never made it a priority. I have a 24' Sea Ray that would work well for diving...so really I have no excuses. Does anyone recommend any locations? Are dry suits necessary? I am definitely going to dive Lake Michigan this summer. If anyone is interested in joining me, let me know. I'm sure Capt Darrick Lorenzen will come.

I've dove in Michigan several times. A couple of times from Milwaukee and also from Winthrop harbor. Some very cool wrecks out there. Not much else. Once in a while I've seen fish. Dry suits are recommended. I did the first couple of dive in a 7mm. In 39 degree water I was pretty cold at the end of the dive. I'll be diving there again this summer. Let me know when you go.

Could you tell me what wrecks you dove and what operators you used? Are there any links that you are aware of to dive sites or operators? Do you have any photos?

I've been on four wrecks. One is the Prins Williem max dept 90 feet, other is called Dredge No.6 max dept 70 feet, and the Milwaukee Car Ferry max dept 125 feet. I did these three with an outfit called Len-Der charters. Small boat and it can be very crowed. Web site is www.pcdiving.com
The other wreck is the Wisconsin max dept 130 feet. I did this wreck on the Enterprise. Web site www.captaindales.com Good outfit, 6 people max on a charter.

Brrrrrr.  Sounds a tad chilly.  What does it take to get trained on a dry suit?  I've seen them for rent at various dive shops, but have never inquired about the training.

I believe the following is the contact information for both operations mentioned above: Len-Der Charters (www.len-der.com) - 414/482-1430; Capt. Dale's (www.captaindales.com) - 847/640/8113. Let me know if these are not the correct operations. Thanks.
