I was training at Haigh Quarry April 17th and 18th. 7 students were preparing for trips to Australia, St. Lucia and Costa Rica. Everyone performed well and were certified as safe and competent entry level divers. I love to train divers in Midwestern conditions. The training challenges the student and if certified you can be pretty sure they are prepared to dive safely in most environments. Water temperature was about 50 degrees and comfortable for long periods in a two piece 6mm wetsuit with hood and gloves. Visibility was excellent, fluctuating between 40 to 60 feet. Wildlife was present and active. We had dinner Saturday night at Tucci’s (the old Armenises). It was excellent, and the owner Joe was correct in establishing the new changes in menu and décor. There were probably only 20 or 30 people at the quarry all weekend. Haigh is well run and a great dive training facility. You can log on to their website by linking from the banner ad on our site. Haigh Quarry is located in Kankakee Illinois about 60 minutes south of Chicago. I have been to other quarries and dive training locations in the Midwest and Haigh is by far my favorite! It is interesting and fun and I guarantee not a mudhole! Try it you will like it! It was great to start the 2010 season.

What is the average water temperature range at Haigh Quarry during June and July? I will be doing my first open water dive there soon and am worried about being too cold (I get cold very easily). Thanks-
