In the past there has been a New Year's Day dive held on the Lake-front in Chicago.  I did not go and I am not sure if there actually was one held last year.  Does anyone know if there is anyone organizing a dive this year?  If so, do you have any details?

Good question!  It used to be organized, but I hear it is less so lately.  Anybody got a clue?

20 Fathoms Dive club used to host it.
Bob Wallace of Channel 7 or 2 used to cover it because
he was a member of the club.
I think they are gone and nobody picked up the ball and ran with it..

According to several divers I talked to last night, the annual New Year's Day dive will be held again this (next?) year. For those who want to participate, the dive takes place on the morning of January 1st at 9:00 AM. It will be off north side of Solidarity Drive near the Planetarium. (Solidarity drive is the causeway that extends out toward the Planetarium from where the Shedd Aquarium is located.) Divers will dive in the shallow waters of the south wall of Monroe Harbor. No one organizes this event; it just "happens" each year. It is a great hangover cure.
