As of June 4th, water temp at the surface was 67, temp at 20' was 61, 53 at 40'.  I would strongly recommend a 7mm suit with hood and gloves.  Visibility is at 35' except where it is stirred up by students.  Bring insect repellent for the biting flies,  as they have returned.  Plenty of bluegills, other fish life.

chgodvr,

Thanks for the heads up.Will take 7mm,hoods and gloves.I take it there are a lot of divers that go there. Are there shallow spots to practice skills without other divers dropping down on you :) ?

Heliflyer,

There are several platforms in the 20-25ft range for practicing skills and much of the left side of the quarry (if facing the ramp) is fairly shallow.  Many areas on the right side around the 40-50ft range, sloping to the deepest point, "the black hole", at approx. 80ft in the back-right portion of the quarry.  Definitely something for everyone.

Take a look at the High Quarry website (see the link under the "local dive sites" tab on this website) to view a map of the quarry.

This weekend may not be too bad since it is DUI days at Pearl Lake.  A lot of people that might be at Haigh will be at Pearl.  The shallow entry at Haigh extends for a good distance with a platform at the end that is at 12 - 15'.  There is a wall beyond it that drops to 35 - 40'.  The north end of the quarry is shallow at 23'  with several platforms, a bouyancy course and a navigation course.  There are also several points of interest in the north end.  The south end is deeper, starting at 20' out to the south platform and the dipping into the 40 - 50' range with the deep hole at 80' in the far southeast corner.  There is some nice wall diving along the south and east and you can find your comfort depth for your suit since the wall extends above the waterline.  Look for the paddlefish in the south end.
