TOPIC: Is it worth it to get Divemaster Certification?

Im looking for some honest advice.

I am a newly certified advanced diver with one speciality course (enriched air) completed and soon to be dry suit certified and am CPR certified yadda yadda yadda .......

I figure looking at the requirements in becoming a divemaster level or assistant instructor, it would be possible by 2011 or 2012 for me to complete the cert  prerequisites without too much of a strech.

Of course I have quite a long way to go, but is there any demand for instructors (not full time) part time and or seasonaly in the Midwest Chicago land area?

Without quitting my day job or any drastisic and sudden exxodus from the midwest region, is there a  realistic likellihood of really being able to teach or assist in teaching diving?

Im 23 , most likely patient and persistent enough to teach, and am capable as any other instructor candidate (heck if not more!)

Do many divers go on to become divemasters or instructors find themselves unable to get even part time work?

Any thoughts or relevant experienes that you can share??

PS

Any advice on the best valued place to get speciality/divemaster/instructor course training?
Any place to avoid?

Thanks

Mike-

The Dive Master Course is worth completing just for the experience and increase in youe own skill level as a diver.  If you go on to get your Instructor certification you will be able to make some money teaching others, but do not expect to be able to support yourself doing so.  As a certified instructor you will be able to work if you really want to.  There are a lot of instructors around, but if you work at it you will be able to teach, either for a shop or on your own.
