Only time I got hurt in 36 years of diving was last summer FreeDiving to 50 feet and got a reverse block on ascent and now I have ringing in my right ear and can't hear between 4000-8000 htz.  I'll take a pass....

If you do decide to FreeDive, get a SpareAir and have it handy so you can at least stop and try to clear a block if you get one...

remember when you resort to the despair air, your no longer freediving. Then rules of ascent apply as if on scuba.

When I was a commercial diver in the 1980's we used to park our support boat near the Flower Gardens off Galveston Texas. Lower the bell down to 100-feet and have free diving competitions. Most divers could get down to the bell at 100-feet. We would take a breath inside and then swim around the reef with just mask and fins on. It was one of the most enjoyable and fabuluous things I have ever done diving. Maybe not the safest or smartest, but the coolest. By the way, we were all very highly trained and very fit! We would also lower the bell down to 150????? and have free acsent contests. NO DESPAIR AIR.
