It's been my experience that Chicago area divers, even the new ones are lower maintence when they show up down here. Last week a couple came in, wife was having trouble with sea sickness, they wanted to do a couple of beach dives. What a pleasent experience it was for me, they were very competent. All I had to do was point out fishies!!!!!! Why do y'all think that is????

It's probably because we have to deal with the harshest of diving conditions on a regular basis in our local dive spots.  So when we get to a place for diving in even nicer conditions than we are used to, we still are glad to be there.

I often have people who call me to shop the cost of a refresher course after a 10 year lay off from the sport. They always try to impress me with their diving prowess using a double hose regulator and steel 72 in the 1970's. I tell them the refresher is FREE. All they have to do is correctly assemble a basic gear kit unsupervised and then do a mask clear and mask recovery. If they can't do it the refresher costs $600!
